The Winner of the Rootstech Give-Away

Earlier in the month I posted a contest where one winner would win free admission to the Rootstech 2018 conference (air and hotel not included). To enter the contest all you needed to do was:

  1. Comment on this post with the best family story you have found researching your family.
  2. Comment on this post with your brick wall.
  3. Write a blog post about either subject and come back to this post and comment, leaving a link to your blog post.

Thank you to everyone that entered by sharing their brick wall, or ‘stone wall’ for those researching their Irish ancestors, as Brian pointed out.

The winner of the contest is…

Stephanie Hicks Milner

Stephanie’s brick wall is:

My story is a combination of the two! My Irish brick wall is my Mannix family. Just the other day, I took a class that taught us how to use FindMyPast and afterwards, I went digging. I happened to find records for my great-great-great grandfather Patrick Mannix, his wife Hanora, and what appear to be siblings of Patrick. They all popped up multiple times in court and prison documents– looks like they were troublemakers and got into some brawls, he had a few cases of petty larceny, and funniest of all were the accusations of trespassing by his goats into a neighbor’s cabbage. Scoundrel!

Stephanie, I will be reaching out to you with your certificate this week.
