Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
One of the most somber places to visit while at Arlington Cemetery is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The tomb contained the remains of 4 soldiers:
1 Soldier from WWI
1 Soldier from WWII
1 Soldier from Korean War
1 Soldier from the Vietnam War
The Vietnam soldier has since been identified as Air Force 1st Lt. Michael Joseph Blassie.1 Since then, Ist Lt. Blassie has been laid to rest in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Today the Vietnam crypt (in the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier) remains empty.
The tomb is inscribed with the following:
HERE RESTS IN
HONORED GLORY
AN AMERICAN
SOLDIER
KNOWN BUT TO GOD
While visiting, we watched the changing of the guard. I would highly recommend you do so. I did video the changing through FB Live, unfortunately there is no way to download that video for this post. However you can view it here (sorry it is sideways).
