This Weeks Mystery Has Been Solved

Earlier in the week, I wrote a post about things I learned in the 1940 Census on my great-great uncle, John O’Connell. You can read the original post here. It seems for a few years, he owned a restaurant in Hudson Falls, NY and I wanted to find out the name and see if said restaurant was still open. Thanks to my friend Terri on Facebook, I now have the information.

Last night, Terri was kind enough to post on my Facebook wall that she had found the name of the restaurant and she also left me a link to where she found the information on Ancestry.

Here is a cropped version of the record.

Twin Acres was the name of his restaurant. I googled it and did not find a listing for it. I will however be setting an alert on Ebay to see if I can find anything there.

The next question is, who is the Mary listed under John? John had a sister Mary who married three different times. Could this be her, between husbands?

In case you haven’t seen them yet, it looks like there are a couple of newspaper pages on Old Fulton Postcards with small ads for the “Lee Sisters” performing at the Twin Acres on “Hudson Falls – Fort Ann Road”. They appear on July 11th and July 18th, 1942 in The Post-Star from Glen Falls, NY (right next door.)

You can also noticed a 2nd reference to the show on the one page – right in the center next to the “Fingers at the Windows” movie ad. (Ooh, scary folks!)

If you are not familiar with the area, upstate NY – especially the Catskills, were still in their heyday for summer resorts etc. Fun stuff!

  Thanks for stopping by and especially thanks for taking the time to look at Old Fulton Postcards. To be honest, I have searched for people on their site, but not for businesses. Definitely need to go and do that and download what I can find.
  
  I have been to the area to visit whatever area’s I had already tracked down on the family and the cemeteries my family is buried in.
