Richmond Falls

For quite awhile I have seen the mention of Richmond Falls while I was researching my Richmond family. I would do a quick internet search to try to learn about it, but I never really came up with anything. Since I was in the area of West Virginia that my Richmond family is from I thought I should learn more about Richmond Falls, and where they are located.

The reason I could not really find a lot of information on them is because the name had been changed long ago to Sandstone Falls. The falls were originally named after William C. Richmond, who settled the area of what is now Sandstone Falls after the Revolutionary War. William is my 6th great-grandfather and he settled the land and even started a ferry service across the New River with his son Samuel.

It excites me when I can read about land being settled, and named after my ancestors. Even if the name was changed at a later date.
