My Finds at ACPL
Everyone survived! We had a great weekend in Fort Wayne, IN and did a lot of research at the ACPL. What a library! The size of the building is impressive and the collections within these walls, amazing. Can you imagine being in a room filled with Family History Books, completely surrounding you? It was never a thought in my mind. Now that I am home, I just want to go back.
Unfortunately, I did not make any great finds in my research this weekend. To be honest, I think I was completely overwhelmed by all the great books and resources at my fingertips. I did find one clue that I will need to follow-up on this week. If this clue pans out, I might have found the final resting place for my last O’Connell great-uncle.
I also was able to eliminate a branch on my Richmond tree. Many who have done the research before me believe that our line connects with Thomas Rogers of the Mayflower. According to the books I looked through this weekend, it does not seem this is possible. It seems that there were many Richmond lines in the area and will really need to see who William Cody Richmond belongs to. It was definitely sad to delete this line, lets face it, we would all like to find a bit of fame in our tree. You cannot get more famous than the Mayflower. Of course, it is possible that the family lines connect at a different place. I will have to spend a lot of time on this family to see if I can take it any further.
Anyhow, We all made it home safely and had a great time at ACPL and in Ft Wayne. Plans are being set in motion for a fall get together. I hope many more of our blogging friends will be able to join us.
I felt exactly the same way, Terri! There are two family lines I didn’t even get a chance to look at, since I was so busy just trying to comprehend all the information that was available. NEXT time…I’ll have a real plan.
I was thinking the same thing. I went in with 3 pages of books (only family histories) to look at and there is so much more to go through. The info that helped me came from looking at the books on different localities.
I was delighted with the local information, too. Places I’ve not even begun to examine. One of the joys of the weekend was the realization that Fort Wayne is quite accessible. That and the so charming companions. Thank you so much.
Susan, the charming companions are what makes it so fun. Thanks for joining us!
Terri, this is one of the many things about ACPL. You can’t get anything done the first time you come. It’s just too overwhelming! Thanks for helping to make the meetup a success. Looking forward to our next one.
Very overwhelming! Cannot wait to come back and research some more. With Geneabloggers and our group of 4, I think ACPL might be seeing a bit more of the Chicago/Columbus researchers.
Yes, Terri, the library’s holdings were pretty impressive! Thanks for working with Tina and Thomas to make this trip possible. It was so gratifying to be able to met so many bloggers I had just seen/known online. As for deleting one of your family lines ~ oh well ~ let it go! You may find other connections that are even more impressive/exciting.
Thanks Pat. It was fun to plan and I am so glad we had so many people come, from different locations. It is always great to meet new geneabloggers.
Like you, Terri, I didn’t make any jaw-dropping discoveries at ACPL. But that didn’t even matter. The weekend was a huge success for me because of the people I met and talked to, and the inspiration everyone gave me. It was such a pleasure meeting you! And yes, I have a feeling you’ll be seeing a lot more of the Columbus contingency 🙂
Glad we all could be inspirational to each other. Can’t wait to see the Columbus contingency again!
