Irish Parish Registers Now Available

Today is the day, the BIG day. The National Library of Ireland (NLI) released the Roman Catholic Parish Registers. The original posts I read said there would be an announcement at 1pm Irish time and the release would be at 2pm. Doing the conversion that is 7 and 8 am Central time.

Well, I happened to click on the link for the NLI at 10 minutes to 7am and the records are up! Yes, you heard me right. The records are up.

Here is what you need to know to search through the records quickly:

  • The parish
  • Event (Marriage or Baptism)
  • The month and year
  • Latin version of the name you are searching

For me, I am all about the Connell family today. I have all the information listed about on my 2nd great-grandfather John O’Connell and his siblings that were born in Ireland. I tried searching for his parents marriage and need to spend more time on that. The good news is I found John’s baptismal record right away.

To search for your family go the NLI website.
