52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks: William C Richmond and Mary Smith
William C Richmond was born in 1752 in Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, I have not been able to determine his parents with 100% certainty. There are those that believe his parents are William and Margaret (Leeper) Richmond. But, William died a good 17 years before William Cody was born. Looking through records of Richmond’s / Richman in Pennsylvania it seems that the family could have possibly been from Scotland. But, again this is just speculation. This makes William Cody a BRICK WALL ANCESTOR!!
William married Mary Smith in 1777. Mary Smith was born around 1760, location and parents currently unknown. Many family trees have Mary as daughter of Isaac and Elizabeth Smith, Isaac being a Revolutionary War soldier. Reading through information on Revolutionary War soldier Isaac Smith of Giles County, VA shows he married a Hannah Simms with no mention of an Elizabeth. Mary is a BRICK WALL ANCESTOR!!
William and Mary had the following children:

Mary died 10 Sep 1807. After Mary’s death, William married Margaret Bragg on 8 Feb 1809, in Greenbrier County, VA.1
William served in the Revolutionary War under Captain Arbuckle. William was allowed a pension on his application, executed 22 Oct 1832 while he was residing in Fayette County, Virginia.2 William had to go into court to swear that he was involved in the war. He called Captain Arbuckle’s son as a witness to his service.
William died Jan 1850 in Sandstone, Raleigh, West Virginia.3
*Mary’s birth is estimated from US Census records, it is obvious that she would have to be born before the death of her mother in 1807.
