Nettie Warden was born on 16 Apr 1879 in Raleigh Co., West Virginia to David J and Malissa (Williams) Warden. ((Nettie Warden, WV Birth Index, wvculture.org)) She was the fourth child, out of a family of six.
On 24 Dec 1896 Nettie married John E. Richmond, at the age of 17, in Raleigh County, WV.1
John and Nettie lived in many towns in Raleigh County, WV through the years and raised a large family. Nettie inherited property from her father, Nettie and John built a two story house on this property and end up dividing the property so that each of their children were given a parcel of land. The property is still in the family, though it currently needs a lot of TLC to bring it back to its former glory.
Nettie was very involved with the Order of the Eastern Stars, according to family members she was always running off to a meeting for the OES. She wore the long white gloves, and had a beautiful OES ring that she wore proudly.
Besides raising her own children their were grandchildren that were raised in this house, and they have very strong memories of Nettie. She did have paid help within the home to assist with the raising of children and taking care of the house. One has to remember that they really lived in the country, the mountains of West Virginia to be exact. A house this size was not the normal, nor was having paid assistance.
Nettie died on 3 Feb 1968,2 she was buried beside her husband at the Stanaford Mine Cemetery.
