They had nine children:

Carie E (1880 – unknown)
Edward (1883 – unknown)
Willard (1885 – 1952)
Winona Mae (1888 – 1926)
Eugene (1890 – 1928)
Ivie (1893 – unknown)
Clarence (1895 – 1955)
Nora (1898 –  unknown)
Edith Merrill (1902 – 2004)

By 1910 the family relocated from Ohio to Raleigh County, West Virginia. Melvina lost her husband to complications from an unexpected stroke on 23 Oct 1914. Her youngest child was 12 at the time.

Following the family through the census, in 1920 we find she is listed as the head of house. She is not working and it seems her sons Edward and Clarence are supporting her and their sister, Edith. By 1930, Edith has moved into the home of her daughter Nora and son-in-law Russell Boyd. Again, she has moved to another state, Kentucky. She lived her remaining years in Johnson, Kentucky. Here she died on 24 Dec 1938.
