52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks: Marie Lustgens

This week takes us to the end of my father’s maternal line, Marie Lustgens.

Marie Lustgens was the wife of Wilhelm Jonas and mother of Ella (Jonas) Jaeger. Information that has been found to date on Marie is very minimal. According to her death certificate, she was born on 10 Mar 1862 in Germany. She married Wilhelm around 1886 and they had 14 children together (see my Surname Saturday posts on the Jonas family for more information). Marie and Wilhelm raised their family in Morton Grove, Cook, IL which is where Marie died on 28 Aug 1944. Marie is buried in St. Mathew’s Cemetery in Niles, Cook, IL.

Since I do not know specifically where Marie is from in Germany and it has been hard to research her. Every time I find her maiden name, it has been spelled a different way. I have no clue if it is Lustgens for sure. That is how it is spelled on Ella’s birth certificate. Other spellings I have seen are; Luetgens, Lutjens, and Lutgen.

Do any of these names come up in your family? If so, please let me know.
